certificates approved by the Canton Branah Political Council, together with the form of certificate to be used. A questionnaire form to be filled in by applicants has also been prepared and a copy is enclosed.

The Commissioner for Foreign Affairs inform-- ed me verbally that he proposed to charge an in- clusive fee which would amount in Hong Kong currency to $11 for each certificate issued, and I agreed that that was not unreasonable. It will be seen that applications can be made either direct to

the Bureau for Foreign Affairs, or through a Consu- late.

I now propose to inform British subjects of Chinese descent, who are already registered at this office, that they must apply for Chinese denationali- sation sertificates without delay, and I shall refuse any new applications for British registra-

tion until such documents have been obtained. I

am also forwarding copies of this correspondence to the Governor of Hongkong with the request that the new regulations may be brought to the notice of Chinese British subjects in the Colohy who may desire to obtain recognition as such by the British

Consulates and the Chinese authorities in the two

Kwang provinces. In particular, these Chinese
